The Humble and the Meek

Humility goes a far way, reaping results one could never imagine. Being humble and meek may seem simple, but it can prove to be very difficult to practice by many, especially the proud. The bible tells us of how much God honors people with such attributes and what is the outcome of those that practice the same. Here are some scriptures that will remind us about being humble.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2 | NIV | 

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. Philippians 2:3 | NIV |

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 | NIV | 

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Romans 12:16 | NIV | 

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4 | NIV | 

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10 | NIV | 

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12 | NIV | 

Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor. Proverbs 29:23 | NIV

Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4 | NIV 

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6 | NIV 

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. James 3:13 | NIV

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” Mark 9:35 | NIV | 

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. Matthew 6:2 | NIV

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor. Proverbs 15:33 | NIV
